Today we are going to take a look at what the Duke TIP program is, the programs offered, and the benefits of the Duke TIP program.

What is the Duke TIP Program?

The Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) is a nonprofit organization that has served over 2.8 academically talented students in grades four through twelve. Its stated purpose is to identify gifted children and provide them the resources to reach their full academic potential. Since the first talent search in 1980, Duke TIP enrolls nearly 100,000 new students in its talent searches.

The talent searches help gifted students access the range of their academic abilities with above-level testing. Furthermore, the program recognizes students for their achievements and provides them with a variety of enrichment benefits. TIP also offers accelerated in-person and online educational programs.

Programs Offered

4th-6th Grade Talent Search

This is the starting point for gifted students who are seeking an academic challenge. This program offers the PSAT 8/9 as an optional test, fun educational enrichment resources, and access to learning programs. Enrolling in the 4th-6th Grade Talent Search gives students the opportunity to apply for TIP’s online and residential educational programs. This is where they become part of a community of gifted peers. You can learn more about Duke’s 4th-6th Grade Talent Search here.

7th Grade Talent Search

The 7th Grade Talent Search helps gifted seventh graders develop their abilities and discover the extent of their academic talent with above-level testing (either ACT or SAT). This is the entry point for many TIP programs and the benefits last through the end of high school. Further, enrolling in the 7th Grade Talent Search is the first step to attending the online and face-to-face educational programs offered by TIP. 8th-10th Grade Option

The 8th-10th grade option (or TIP Option) is an alternate way for non-TIP students above seventh grade to qualify for TIP educational programs that require minimum test scores. So, if you are unable to participate in the 7th Grade Talent Search, this program might be for you! You can learn more about Duke’s 8th-10th Grade option here.

When students take advantage of these opportunities, they grow socially, intellectually, and emotionally. Overall, The Duke TIP program offers above-level testing, recognition and ceremonies, enrichment, educational programs, and college prep.

Overall, Duke TIP helps students and their families grow their academic abilities while providing them with motivation, challenge, inspiration, peer interaction, advanced learning opportunities, and more.
